BOOK GROUP

The book group met and selected books for the spring.

Here’s the list for our spring meetings. We welcome all members to join us for the following discussions:

February 2 - Home of Kay Campbell  -  Half the Sky by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn

"Half the Sky is a passionate and persuasive plea to all of us to rise up and say "No more!" to the seventeenth-century abuses to girls and women in the 21st century world. This is a book that will pierce your heart and arouse your conscience." Tom Brokaw

March 2 - Home of Carol Sullivan-Hanley - Let the Great World Spin By Colum McCann

Let the Great World Spin” can feel like a precursor to another novel of colliding cultures: “The Bonfire of the Vanities,” Tom Wolfe’s classic portrait of New York in the 1980s. But McCann’s effort is less disciplined, more earnest, looser, rougher, more flawed but also more soulful — in other words, more like the city itself.  Jonathan Mahler (NYTimes Book Review)

April 6 - Home of Lynne O'Brien - Hotel on the Corner of  Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford

"Set during one of the most conflicted and volatile times in American history, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet is an extraordinary story of commitment and enduring hope. In Henry and Keiko, Jamie Ford has created an unforgettable duo whose story teaches us of the power of forgiveness and the human heart." BookBrowse

May 7 - Field Trip to Salem - The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent

"Engrossing..... succeeds as both historical fiction and intimate family saga." Daniel Mallory, Times Literary Supplement
