EF Annual Report

April 1, 2007 – March 31, 2008

·        Sema Faigen International Fellowship Completed

This was the major accomplishment of the 2007 – 2008 year for AAUW-MA.  It was the culmination of seven years of fundraising and the hard work of many AAUW-MA branches and members.

We have honored a woman who has given much, not only to AAUW, but to women, locally and internationally.

We thank Sema and Ivan Faigen, who gave so generously to ensure that this effort came to fruition.  Many branches responded generously as well, when the request went out to send in contributions early so that the completion of the fellowship could be announced at the national convention in June 2007.

It will be particularly gratifying to all of us, and to Sema in particular, when the fellowship is first awarded this coming academic year.

·        Fellows speak at branch meetings

Several branches, including Attleboro, Bedford-Lexington, Cape Cod, Danvers-Topsfield, Newburyport, and North Shore have had, or will be having EF fellows speak at branch meetings.  Fellows are eager and willing to do this and we should take advantage of this resource when planning our programs.  Danvers-Topsfield, North Shore, and Newburyport have invited three fellows to speak on a panel at Merrimack College to engage students in learning about AAUW and the pursuit of graduate study.  Fellows may also be a good resource when attempting outreach to college students.

·        Fundraising

See attached for details on funds raised this year.  We have had two years of very successful fundraising ($21,403 in 2006-2007 and $19,038 in 2007-2008), due primarily to the push to complete SFIF.  This level of giving will probably not continue, but with attention to the ongoing needs of the foundation, we should aim for $12,000 – $15,000 next year.
